AUGUST 21-26
Thursday August 25
Amazing day!
The last thursday was yet another adventure.
Highlights were fun in the mud pit and the banquet/coffeehouse.
Everyone looked beautiful and we had some great performances.
Some favourites among the performances, were some extra agile toes as performed by David Hania, a very musicall skilled (and heartfelt) performance from our own Mike Vandemberg and a very entertaining ballerina improv from "Da Boys". Other performers included Andre (the host himself), Alida Vandermeulen, Michelle and Holly (aka the Twins) Justin Eisinga and many of the campers.
Wednesday August 24
Today held the last revival of the summer. Due to the rain, we could not have the message at the campfire and give the campers the option of staying and talking (or praying) or t go up to Centre Hall to worship. Instead we held the whole service inside and offered a quiet area downstairs to talk. There were also paper and pens to write or draw prayers, candles and poetry to meditate on.
As the storm rages on we try for a good sleep to prepare for the long (and last) thursday ahead.
Tuesday August 23
The last tuesday of the summer is over. Polar bear swim had (most) of the camp in the pool.
For breakfast we had beetle bake (aka a wonderful breakfast strata). the polar bear swim was reinacted by the staff. There were a few snoozing outside the "pool" area.
There were two tribe challenges today, the first was an egg drop and the second was an obstacle race. Campers had to spin around a baseball bat, then a hula hoop, climb under a picnic table, put their face in a bowl of jello and pull out a grape, put the grape in a cup and run a puzzle piece back to their team.
At some point this afternoon, certain buildings at camp experienced the tremour, but outside it was barely noticable.
Another immunity idol was discovered by the maitenance crew. At supper they called everyone else to eat dessert (dirt cake) without utensils.
After supper campers dived into an intense game of snakes an ladders. New challenges were added to the QUEST version of the game however. Certain challenge squares were added on the board. Also, the dice were not set with certain numbers, as the cabins catch them, each cabin is given a random number as to prevent strategy...
Campfire happened and then bed!
Monday August 22
The last monday of the summer is over. Today, after a filling breakfast of tarantula legs (sausages) and pancakes, campers wwent through their day. The improv was a special success, seeing many laughs and lessons learned. The immunity challenge of the day was to find all the cabin's wood and build a fire tall enough to light a string alight (that was tied between two poles). Later each cabin was tested even more. Campers had to eat lemons, aim chocolate pudding and shoot grapes accross the room with their nostrils.
It was long day after the night game yesterday, so everyone is ready for a good sleep.
Hopefully there won't be any interuptions tonight :)
Sunday August 21
The Quest has begun! The tribes have been selected, named and populated.
It's time to see who will be crowned the Camp Shalom Survivor!
But now that we've met the staff, its time for campfire and then to bed for a blissful nghts sleep to prepare for the next days activities...
PSCYCHE!
Night game of KJKJ!
